How we built our first mobile teak sauna in Bali

We built our first mobile teak sauna in Keramas, a village in Bali. It is our Medium model for four people, with a terrace next to it. Our own workshop built its teak walls. We built it so clients can see our work before they order.
Who is Wellnessway and what do we make?
Wellnessway makes Finnish teak saunas in Bali in two versions. A mobile model stands next to a private home, villa or guesthouse without a foundation. For hotels and places with a view we build a custom sauna on site, to a design.
We want a Finnish sauna to become a normal part of villas and homes in the tropics, like a pool.
What does a finished sauna tell a client?
A built sauna earns more trust than a description. In photos you can judge the materials and the joints before you order. Craftsmanship matters to us, so we build the teak walls and parts ourselves.
What is the first sauna in Keramas made of?
The walls and ceiling are a single layer of teak boards joined with tongue-and-groove. Metal fasteners tighten them together.
Beams run along the corners and the bottom and hold the body. The base is ulin, Indonesian ironwood, which resists moisture. The door is tempered glass, 10 mm thick.
How did we build the first sauna?
First we prepared the site for the sauna and the terrace. Our workshop prepared the boards for the walls. Then came the glass door and the roof. Next to the sauna we added a shower and a changing room with a stone floor.
What do the photos of the first sauna show?
The shots show the teak end grain, the beams and the joints of the boards. Every photo shows the real sauna. We use renders only for projects that are not built yet, and we label them as a visualisation.
Why look at our first sauna if you need another one?
You do not have to buy our first sauna. It is there to show our work.
Your site may need another size, another layout or a custom project. The first sauna shows that you deal with people who have already built a sauna in Bali. Your sauna will be made by the same workshop, from the same teak and with the same joints.
Which models are in the Wellnessway range?
Mini seats one to two people, and its width, depth and height are 100 × 120 × 210 cm. It costs 68,000,000 IDR and suits couples.
Medium seats four people. It is 200 cm wide, 160 cm deep and 210 cm high. It costs 88,000,000 IDR and suits families, villas and guesthouses.
Comfort seats up to six people, and its size is 170 × 230 × 210 cm. Its price is 118,000,000 IDR.
Every model comes with an electric heater with stones. The ladle and thermometer are bought separately. Delivery and assembly are paid separately.
What can you order with the sauna?
Next to the sauna you can place a plunge pool, a stone terrazzo bowl for cold or warm water. The shower stands on a wooden post, and you choose the wood. The deck around the sauna is made of teak, ulin or stone.
A canopy over the sauna and the deck gives shade and shelter from rain, and you choose its material. You can also order a changing room, a rest area with loungers and a bath set.
How do you order your own sauna?
First we get to know your site and your task. We ask how many people will use the sauna and whether the sauna is for you or for guests. Then we measure the site and choose the model, the wood tone and the extras together with you.
After that we prepare an estimate and a contract, and you pay a deposit. Our workshop prepares the wood and makes the sauna. We deliver the sauna taken apart anywhere in Bali and assemble the sauna on site.
At handover we show you how to use and care for it. You pay the rest after assembly. We write every agreement into the contract.

What warranty does the sauna have?
The structure has a one-year warranty, or three months if you assemble the sauna yourself. The heater is covered by its maker's warranty terms.
